Everest Base Camp: Trekking & Altitude
Everest trekking is the pride of Nepal. The famous Everest base camp trekking goes into the Everest region and the Eastern part of Nepal and is the second most popular trekking area. This is the home of the World famous Sherpas. With a landscape broken into deep gorges and glacial valleys, during the trek, you will be treated to a breathtaking view of Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha – Nepali name) along with Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Nuptse, Pumori, Thamserku, Amadablam, etc. This Everest base camp trekking area is surrounded by Sagarmatha National Park with a total area of 1148 sq km. The region has beautiful hemlock, pine, fir, juniper, birch, rhododendrons and shrubs to alpine plants and then to bare rock and snow. It is the home of the Himalayan tahr, goral, serow and musk deer. The most common birds are the pheasant, red-billed cough, impeyan, blood pheasant, and the yellow-billed cough. Elevation ranges from 2845 – 8848 m. Usually, trekking in this region starts either from Luka or Jiri (almost 30-minute flight from Kathmandu).

We can see this type of rock everywhere in every striking we are here in the village god.
we just left the village parting heading towards Namja bazaar. It will take us around 6 hours to be there.
You can see that bunch of people is tracking even in December so imagine in October how proud it would be mundu village last reached and I’m saying come here it’s all uphill we arrived in the village of namja started at 8 o clock this morning and this is 3 o clock it’s total 7 hours but we had a lunch break 1 hour so let’s say took us six hours and we are here on heaven on earth walking through the village. Day 4. we are heading towards Tengbuche, which is 5 hours. say 30 here hoping to be there by 1:30 or 2:00 o’clock.
Yesterday was our acute Isis in the day in ma’am Jupiter. we were thoughts took a shower did email, Internet and walk around the village and we spent the day relaxing to build up the red blood cell.
Can you believe? it’s Everest just there you can see the river down, there it’s uncut out 3,200 meters from then onwards.
We climb 700 meters to get to the 910 bouge that’s playing with it and you can see amazing mountains. we arrived in the village Tengbuche around two o’clock this afternoon was like five hours straight. We can see many mountains from Tengbuche .and you see this thing with a village its language a monastery the puja is going to start in a few minutes.
8 o clock and we had breakfast now we are heading towards this valley to ding bûche and the bottom of that big mountain Billy’s fine busy on the lap of Amadablam and Mount Everest and Lhotse. after three and a half hours of walking from Tengbuche, we are here in Somare. Now, we are almost in the village of Dingbuche. now it took us five and a half hours to get here.
very slow and we are going to stay overnight here this is Dingbuche and this thing which a leaves you to the Chukhung village up that way and this valley is called Chukhung Valley – and the bottom of Lotse mountain.

it’s a tough-luck now we just started our track today the weather is not not really good and not really bad as well it’s kind of okay we just had our launch.
It’s another one and a half or two hours from 5060 meters yeah 60-degree mountain view including Everest it’s amazing.

Everest Base Camp Altitude Sickness Prevention
So how do you limit the effects of Everest Base Camp altitude sickness or altitude sickness? There are a few things that you can do to help you adjust to the altitude.
- The biggest one, the massive one, his pace. So when you’re on a trek to Everest Base Camp you want to have the mindset that you need to slow down as much as you can. Ideally, you need to be at a pace where you can actually hold a conversation with someone else and not be out of breath.
- As you get higher it does get difficult and there are times where you have to walk up some relatively steep paths. Especially up to Namche or Tengboche or when you get in on some of the acclimatization hikes we do just to test yourselves. Where we actually hit a certain height and then hike back down where we sleep. But generally, you want to be able to hold a conversation with whoever you’re with, your guide, your trekking partner, whoever you’re with. And you know you go at a steady pace and our guides will manage that for you. And will check and if you are going too quick they will sort of say, “Look, slow down.” But it’s up to you sort of control that being, “Right, I’m going too fast here” and slow down. Sometimes you will notice if you’re going up too fast.
- The next things is hydration. Biggest thing. If you’re struggling with Everest base camp altitude, it’s probably because you haven’t had enough water. Especially, you want to be aiming for at least four liters a day, it seems like a lot, especially if you’re not a big drinker of water on a daily basis. But it seriously helps you. The more hydrated you are, the better your body will adjust. Guarantee it.
You can unlucky obviously, anything can happen. Anyone can get Everest base camp altitude or sickness. But, it’s these sorts of things, pace and water are two big factors. You want to be looking after your body as well. So we don’t recommend you drinking alcohol on the way up to Everest Base Camp. On the way down, go for it. You’ve done, Everest Base Camp, you can have a celebration, it’s always a good time to celebrate. We normally save it for when we’re actually back at Lukla or back at Kathmandu. But, it’s up to yourself. So looking after your body. Some people will take vitamin tablets. Also as well, we do find that if you’re talking like an aspirin, it does help with adjusting with altitude because it thins your blood a bit. It just takes that little pressure off. Because your blood does thicken at Everest base camp Altitude or high altitude. Because you’re dealing with a sort of oxygen-deprived environment, your body is trying to adjust and that’s one of the things it does, is it thickens your blood. It produces more red blood cells. Your blood gets thicker. You’d be surprised, if you cut yourself, you know accidentally or scratch yourself, you won’t actually bleed that much. But if you do take aspirin it kind of levels that out a little bit.
You know, one a day, something like that. That does help people. So there’s a couple of hints there that how to help it. Again, pace, plenty of water, looking after yourself and just having a damn good time as well. Some people are just thinking, “Everest base camp Altitude sickness, altitude sickness, altitude sickness.” And if you go ahead and you’re thinking like that when you’re out there and you worry about every single little thing, then you know, that does have an effect. You’ve got to try and stay in that positive mindset. Enjoying where you are and you’ll forget the odd headache. If it does become serious and you know our guides are well trained to notice that. One of the first things that will happen is you’ll lose your appetite. You won’t want to eat. So that’ll be the first trigger. Lack of sleep, feeling actually physically sick as well as another sign of altitude sickness. There are different levels of it. You can have extreme headaches that potentially can affect your vision. You can be slurring your words. We will manage you so that it won’t get to that stage. It’s always worth being mindful of how to look out for Everest base camp or high altitude sickness, OK. So those are the things that I recommend that if you do, you’ll limit the effects of Everest base camp altitude sickness.

Altitude sickness experience on the Everest base camp trek
just before we really get into this topic, I just want to point out that everybody’s different the way that altitude works, is not entirely dependent on your fitness level. it can be anything from the way that your biology actually reacts to the altitude so what worked for me and what happened to me might not happen to you. you might feel better, you might feel worse, you might be more fit or you might be more used to endurance walking and running. so all of these factors can make a really big difference into how you feel on the Everest base camp trek .especially at altitudes of 5000 meters or above . the whole way I was mostly absolutely fine it wasn’t really until I got to base camp and Kalla pathar that I started feeling pretty rough. base camp was pretty much okay but Kalapathar was definitely the worst altitude sickness experience that I had on the entire trek.
The Everest base camp trek in terms of the way -my body reacted to the altitude but you’ve just got to take it a slow press. On getting to Namche and you’ll be absolutely fine. So, day three -hike up to Everest View Hotel was not quite as difficult as to Namche but the headaches were much worse and headaches were worse when I stopped moving and my heart rate was lower but not bad enough to stop. So I found all the way up to the Everest view hotel. The views actually really made up for the headaches but I found that when I stopped, I’m a heart rate lowered then the headaches actually got a lot worse, so I kept kind of moving as much as I could have really short breaks made it to the Everest View Hotel. I had kind of like a constant headache all day during that acclimatization Trek but most of the time it was absolutely fine. It was just a mild kind of headache and it wasn’t enough to get me to stop. on the way to base camp was totally fine but when we got a little bit closer and started gaining elevation, a little bit more, I did start getting some really quite bad headaches, so, we just rested a little bit more. The base camp glacier is right there so, close. and when we actually got to base camp and got settled and started having a little look around I found that the altitude symptoms that I was getting died off and I was totally fine. while I was doing the Everest base camp trek anyway so I’d completed my objective but I found that didn’t want to keep trekking all the way to the summit and put myself at risk. Put my guide at risk if I knew, I was feeling unwell, I didn’t want to push my body too hard the summit’s Where, I was trekking to do. What I came there to do and make our way back down because of the really low temperatures.
